Nexxis Technology acquires BladeBUG, expanding global wind energy inspection capabilities
15/10/2026
Nexxis Technology, a global leader in robotic inspection and remote visual inspection solutions, has announced the completion of its acquisition of BladeBUG, the UK-based robotics company renowned for its advanced wind turbine blade inspection technology. The acquisition marks a significant milestone in Nexxis Technology’s international growth strategy and strengthens its position in the rapidly expanding renewable energy sector. By bringing together complementary robotic platforms, artificial intelligence (AI) capabilities and specialist engineering expertise, the combined business will deliver a more comprehensive and scalable approach to wind turbine inspection, maintenance and asset integrity management.
BladeBUG has earned international recognition for its innovative six-legged robotic crawler that uses suction-based adhesion technology to traverse wind turbine blades and perform contact-based non-destructive testing (NDT). The technology enables inspectors to identify leading-edge erosion, subsurface defects and structural damage while significantly reducing the need for rope access inspections and other high-risk manual methods.

Combined with Nexxis Technology’s portfolio of robotic inspection systems, including its Snowcat crawler for internal blade and confined space inspection, Zenith for tower and vertical asset inspection and the Magneto electromagnetic robotic platform for ferrous structures, the acquisition creates a more complete inspection ecosystem capable of addressing a wider range of assets, surfaces and operating environments.
The integration of Nexxis’s modular robotic architecture, AI, machine vision and advanced data analytics capabilities is expected to accelerate future product development and unlock new opportunities for automated inspection across the renewable energy sector and beyond.
As wind turbines continue to grow and move further offshore, asset owners face increasing pressure to inspect critical infrastructure safely, efficiently and cost-effectively. Traditional inspection methods often require technicians to work at height in challenging environments, while visual-only approaches can miss defects that lead to unplanned downtime, expensive repairs and reduced asset life.
By combining BladeBUG’s proven external blade inspection technology with Nexxis’s existing inspection platforms and global support network, operators will gain access to a single, integrated inspection pathway covering external blades, internal blade structures, towers and associated infrastructure.
The acquisition will also provide BladeBUG with access to Nexxis’s established operations across Australia, North America, Asia-Pacific and other international markets, accelerating commercialisation opportunities and expanding customer access to its technology.
Chris Cieslak, Founder and CEO of BladeBUG, said: “BladeBUG was founded to make wind turbine inspection and maintenance safer, faster and more effective. Joining Nexxis gives our team access to complementary technology, global market reach and additional resources to accelerate our development, strengthen our go-to-market strategy and scale our impact across the renewable energy sector.
“What excites us most is the opportunity to combine our expertise in blade inspection with Nexxis’s proven capability in robotic inspection, manufacturing and deployment. Together, we can deliver greater value to wind asset owners while helping drive the adoption of safer, data-driven inspection practices across the industry.”
Jason De Silveira, Founder and CEO of Nexxis Technology, said: “What stood out about BladeBUG was not just the robot itself, but the evidence behind it. Years of field trials, customer collaboration and deep technical understanding of blade degradation have created a technology that solves a critical industry challenge.
“This acquisition accelerates the growth of Nexxis and extends our technology into a wider range of industries and applications. By bringing together BladeBUG’s suction-based adhesion technology, our electromagnetic robotic platforms, modular architecture, AI capabilities and global delivery network, we can inspect more surfaces, solve more complex challenges and provide operators with richer, more actionable asset intelligence.
“Our purpose remains clear: removing people from harm while helping customers make better maintenance decisions through high-quality data. Together, we are creating a more connected approach to wind turbine inspection, enabling external blade, internal blade and tower inspections through one partner, one evidence trail and one accountable team.
“I would like to thank the BladeBUG team for the trust they have placed in us. We are committed to protecting what makes BladeBUG exceptional while helping accelerate its growth on the global stage. This is just the beginning.”
BladeBUG’s London office will become an important part of Nexxis Technology’s UK and European operations, supporting regional customers, strategic partnerships, engineering collaboration and future growth initiatives.
Customers of both organisations will continue to receive uninterrupted support, with existing projects, agreements and commitments remaining in place throughout the integration process.
