New base for TWI in Scotland

07/09/2009

Aberdeen is the home of the latest expansion for TWI's Training & Examination Services. The new base will open its doors this month to a new facility on Scotland's north east coast at the hub of North Sea activity.

The Twin Spires Business Park on the southern side of Mugiemoss Road is its location. This is about four miles south of Aberdeen's Dyce Airport and three miles west of the train station. These provide frequent domestic and international flights and intercity rail services. Its position three miles north of Aberdeen city centre makes it easily accessible for all forms of transport.

From 2010 it will offer a full training programme to include manual and encoded phased array ultrasonic testing, phased array data interpretation and potentially the new digital radiography course piloted for the first time in August.

Additional courses from TWI's large range of visual weld inspection, plant inspection, painting and coating, general inspection of offshore facilities, and underwater inspection programmes will complement
the NDT training, as well as bespoke training designed to meet specific client requirements.

"Whether it's ultrasonic inspection of pitting corrosion, ultrasonic testing of welds, magnetic particle inspection, penetrant testing, eddy current testing of ferritic welds, radiographic interpretation or time-of-flight diffraction, TWI will be servicing the needs of the offshore training community," said a TWI spokesman.

With three classrooms and two practical areas on-site, multiple courses will be available as the programme develops.

With an experienced and fully PCN/CSWIP Level 3 qualified NDT lecturer based in Aberdeen and the support of TWI's training organisation in the UK, this new venture is said to offer the largest range of NDT and inspection courses in the region.
