Artesis makes predictive maintenance easier

13/09/2010

Predictive maintenance needs accurate analysis in order to deliver results successfully. Artesis, a leading supplier of intelligent predictive maintenance solutions, sets the industry benchmark with simple to use technology, providing 24/7 reporting. However, it is in the expert analysis, interpretation and recommendations of the data collected that the full extent of predictive maintenance and condition monitoring can be realised. In response to customer demand, Artesis is launching its diagnostic support service for its fast-growing user-base.

Aimed at both new and existing MCM (Motor Condition Monitor) users, Artesis recognised that for the industry to fully benefit from predictive and condition monitoring it needed to streamline the whole process flow. It is not enough simply to supply easy-to-use technology; it is also necessary to make the whole process easier. And so, with its team of experienced, highly-skilled staff, Artesis now offers the ultimate predictive maintenance solution package to all its users, regardless of whether they have remote, online or stand-alone systems.

To most, this data is little more than numbers, lines and statistics, and this is where the diagnostic service comes into play. Artesis prides itself in providing a simple to install, simple to use and simple to understand technology, which provides clear guidance on any faults or anomalies that are present and subsequently issues recommendations for action.

However, it is not always convenient or suitable for these results to be reviewed and actioned internally and, in some cases, used to their full potential. With a diagnostic support service, the load and pressure on in-house maintenance teams is eased, allowing for a more effective and efficient approach, reassured by the back-up that the service and MCM system offers. The level of service available is tailored to the requirements of each individual customer and can be as little or as frequent as they wish, with each customer confident in the 24/7 support that Artesis provides.

With continual monitoring, Artesis is able to not only alert its customers to any problems that have been identified, but also to provide detailed information on the nature of the issue, any recommended action and how urgently this should be carried out. Routine reports on the ‘health’ and activity trends of the equipment are also provided, even when no alerts have occurred. With regular updates customers can have confidence in their equipment, reassured of its performance and output.

In the event of an anomaly or complex situation, more detailed in-depth reports are produced; again, these can also be supplied on a frequency suited to the customer. Using analytical tools and techniques unavailable to regular Artesis MCM users, the diagnostic team is able to manipulate the data to retrieve a diverse range of useful, meaningful results.

Originally developed under a NASA contract, the Artesis MCM (Motor Condition Monitor) unit uses intelligent mathematical modelling to establish a norm for each item of equipment, after which it continuously monitors the machinery for potential faults. If a fault is detected, the system provides a diagnosis of mechanical and electrical problems and indicates the severity of the fault. This saves time and significantly drives down maintenance costs by highlighting potential failures and providing diagnostics in advance to avoid secondary damage.

With a database compiled from over 10 million motors, customers can be confident and reassured in the validity of the diagnosis and recommendations.

With downtime affecting production, income and output, and with consequences ranging from the initial failure right through to the end user/customer, it is important that operations and maintenance managers are more aware of the real benefits of preventative maintenance and condition monitoring. Even with the simple to use technology of an Artesis MCM unit, with additional access to the right support and service the savings and benefits go from making a difference to making an impact on business, earnings, personnel and ultimately the customer.
