A Mechanical Laboratory Technician is sought for a leading role at an integrated, intelligent and agile supply chain organisation, focusing on the full sales, inventory and operations planning (SIOP) horizon, including execution at Titchfield.
The role:
The company is seeking a detail-oriented Mechanical Laboratory Technician to join its aerospace materials and processes laboratory. This role supports both production and manufacturing engineering functions through materials testing, process verification and certification of aerospace components. The successful candidate will be hands-on in technical testing, troubleshooting, quality system support and maintaining high laboratory standards in compliance with industry certifications and Nadcap audit requirements. Training will be provided to ensure competency in the following responsibilities.
Key responsibilities:Operational testing and analysis:- Perform water content and fuel analysis to aerospace standards
- Execute X-ray fluorescence (XRF) and salt spray testing procedures
- Carry out particle count analysis for fuel contamination
- Program ovens for heat treatment processes and verify heat treat cycles
- Perform pyrometry checks to ensure equipment calibration and process consistency
- Prepare weld samples and support welder certification processes
- Conduct shore rubber hardness testing and micro-hardness testing
- Program and operate the tensile testing machine
- Execute torsion testing for weak link and spline evaluation
- Support electrical discharge machining (EDM) cut-up reviews for recast layer analysis (all NCM parts)
- Perform materials analysis using XRF techniques
- Create and manage weld data cards and related documentation.
Certifications and quality support:
- Assist in internal audits and preaudit preparation for chemical processing (CP), heat treatment (HT), non-destructive testing (NDT) and welding processes
- Provide technical support during Nadcap audits and maintain compliance documentation
- Collaborate with the Material Review Board (MRB) activities, providing laboratory-based data and insights.
Laboratory excellence:
- Maintain high standards of 5S (sort, set in order, shine, standardise, sustain) within the chemical laboratory area
- Act as a manufacturing environmental safety and health (MESH) technical expert, supporting the implementation and improvement of safety systems.
Qualifications:
- Business and Technology Education Council (BTEC) qualification/Higher National Certificate (HNC) in materials science, engineering or related discipline preferred.
Skills:
- Demonstrable experience in a similar laboratory technician role, ideally within aerospace, automotive or advanced manufacturing
- Hands-on experience with materials testing equipment and analytical techniques (XRF, tensile, hardness, salt spray, etc)
- Good attention to detail and organisational skills
- Ability to interpret technical specifications, quality standards and engineering drawings.
Desirable skills:
- Knowledge of aerospace quality standards (for example Nadcap, AS9100) and certification requirements
- Familiarity with heat treatment, non-destructive testing and welding processes.
