A prominent automation and intralogistics company is looking to hire experienced skilled Shift Maintenance Engineers to work at its automated site in Preston, Lancashire. 

These roles involve maintaining and optimising state-of-the-art machinery to ensure seamless operations at the distribution facility.

Key responsibilities:

  • Perform mechanical disassembly and reassembly tasks, basic field wiring, equipment calibration and system testing
  • Efficiently manage time using a computerised maintenance management system (CMMS), aiming for over 90% utilisation
  • Complete reactive repairs within set timeframes to minimise downtime
  • Conduct servicing and repairs of installed products, taking a hands-on ownership of issues to achieve swift resolutions
  • Interpret electrical schematics and work confidently with 415 V motor controls
  • Prioritise health & safety by conducting thorough risk assessments
  • Demonstrate strong mechanical skills, including the ability to read and follow assembly 
    drawings
  • Follow set-up instructions, assembly guides and checklists with precision
  • Display exceptional attention to detail and demonstrate strong follow-up capabilities 
  • Understand and work with control systems
  • Communicate clearly and effectively with stakeholders at all levels within the organisation as well as within customer environments.

Skills and qualifications required:

  • National Vocational Qualification (NVQ)/Business and Technology Education Council (BTEC)/ 
    City & Guilds (C&G) Level 3 qualifications in electromechanical engineering or a related field
  • Familiarity with non-destructive testing (NDT) methods and technologies
  • Knowledge of programmable logic controller (PLC) systems and their functionality
  • Experience with pneumatics and hydraulics is an advantage
  • Proficiency in basic Microsoft Office applications
  • Experience using computerised maintenance management systems and managing engineering inventory
  • A qualification equivalent to Higher National Certificate (HNC)/Higher National Diploma (HND) is preferred but not essential.

Desirable attributes:

  • Mechanical aptitude, including the ability to disassemble and reassemble equipment using technical diagrams
  • Familiarity with 415 V motor controls and an understanding of PLC systems
  • Awareness of health & safety standards, including conducting risk assessments
  • Customer-oriented approach, with effective communication skills to interact with stakeholders at all levels
  • Willingness to learn, adapt and participate in training programmes, including potential travel within Europe.

Shift pattern:

  • Schedule: Panama shifts
  • Six-month contract position Work hours: Between 6.00 am-
    6.00 pm and 6.00 pm-6.00 am (two weeks of day shifts and two weeks of night shifts, with a rotation between the two).
