- Description:
Terma provides mission-critical solutions for the defence and aerospace industry. The four business areas are: aeronautics; space; surveillance and mission systems; and support and services. Terma was established in 1949.
The company's headquarters are located at Lystrup, Denmark, while the Aerostructures facility is in Grenaa, Denmark.
Aerostructures product forms include metallic machined and welded parts and composite laminates and assemblies.
Terma has participated in the F-35 Lightning II (Joint Strike Fighter) development since 2004 to provide complex composite structures to the programme's prime contractors and pods and pylons to Tier 1 companies. Terma is a major strategic supplier to the F-35; it delivers more than 70 mission-critical parts for the programme.
Terma's production facility in Grenaa has transformed into one of the most advanced composites manufacturing facilities in Europe and is a supplier to Lockheed Martin Aeronautics, Northrop Grumman Corporation, BAE Systems, General Dynamics, Boeing, Raytheon and Sikorsky.
The NDT facilities at Grenaa are within the production department and include:
- Ultrasonic testing of composite parts using C-scan through-transmission squirter systems, phased array in immersion and manual A-scan (pulse-echo and TT);
- Radiographic testing of composite bonded assemblies using film and digital (DDA), film radiography of light alloy welds; and
- Penetrant inspection of machined aluminium parts and light alloy welds.
Terma certifies its 13 NDT personnel in accordance with EN 4179/NAS 410. It has three PT Level 2 inspectors, six UT Level 2s plus one trainee, two RT Level 2s (both also UT Level 1 operators) and one Level 3 (RT, UT, PT) who is employed in Materials & Process Engineering and also holds the Responsible Level 3 position.
