KraussMaffei collaboration

KraussMaffei is supporting the Chair of the Department of Engineering Design and Plastics Machinery (KKM) at the University of Duisburg-Essen by providing a new injection moulding machine from the all-electric PX series. The PX 120-380 is a complete digital equipment solution with DataXplorer. The goal of KraussMaffei is to develop new systems and applications and to use the acquired data to improve product and process quality on a sustainable basis.

A fully automated production cell, along with linear robot and conveyor, will have an all-electric PX 120-380 injection moulding machine with a clamping force capacity of 1200 kN. The addition of the all-electric PX 120-380 injection moulding machine will enable run processes that are more similar to those seen in the real-life industry than in the earlier case.

Professor Reinhard Schiffers, Chair of the Department of Engineering Design and Plastics Machinery (KKM) at the University of Duisburg-Essen, explained: “The production cell measures up to the state-of-the-art of technology in every respect and enables us to merge research and practical applications in digitalisation, not least thanks to the cell’s complete digital equipment.”

KraussMaffei has provided DataXplorer, an analysis tool that is able to give a nearly ‘microscopic’ view of the process, as part of the overall digital package for the PX 120. Reaction to unclear fault patterns has become possible with the new facility. Depending on the equipment of the machine, DataXplorer can display up to 500 high-resolution signal paths, visualising these signal paths and making them available for evaluation. These can be standard signals of the machine or special signals such as the mould cavity pressure.
