Engineering recruitment and contracting specialist NRL Group has announced the successful acquisition of CD Group.

CD Group, a Newcastle-based business that has traded as Contract Design (Northern) for over three decades, comprises several business units that provide services to prestigious industry clients, including temporary and permanent recruitment, design engineering and drafting and translation services. Brands include Contract Design (Northern) and Eldon Bureau Ltd.

According to an NRL Group statement, the acquisition of the 35-year-old CD Group aligns with its continued strategic growth plan, with both businesses operating in similar industry sectors, delivering complementary services. Combined, the two organisations will share a projected annual turnover of around £185 million.

Peter Douglass, departing CD Group Managing Director, said: “We are delighted to be able to agree a sale with the NRL Group, having looked for an organisation that would understand our business and the clients we support. Our shared industry expertise and client base makes it an ideal organisation to continue to develop the high-quality services our team has delivered since 1987.”

David Redmayne, CEO at NRL Group, added: “Both organisations have a great deal in common as family-owned businesses set-up in the 1980s, each developed and grown in line with the changing needs of the energy and engineering industries we support. Having spent a number of months understanding the CD Group, its colleagues and operations, we were delighted to see so many parallels with our own organisation, together with a shared business culture and ethos.

“We are excited to officially welcome the team into the NRL Group and look forward to working with them to deliver expertise at work.”

The NRL Group operates in renewable energy, power generation and infrastructure. From its beginnings at Sellafield in 1983, today’s diverse global Group supplies a range of recruitment resourcing, outsourcing and consultancy services. Its technical contracting businesses provide non-destructive testing (NDT) and rail services in safety-critical environments.
