Testrade Director swims English Channel

09/08/2016

Jody Jones, Director of Testrade Limited and daughter of Testrade Managing Director Gail Long, has swum the English Channel as team captain of the ‘Missed the Ferry’ English Channel Relay Team.

On 14 July 2016, the team of six swimmers took it in turns to swim for an hour at a time from Dover to the French coastline and back, carefully avoiding jellyfish, giant tankers and strong currents along the way. The water temperature was a cool 15ºC and the swim had to be conducted under ‘English Channel Rules’: no wetsuits, only swimming costume, hat and goggles allowed.

This month, Jody will be attempting a solo swim of the largest lake in England – Lake Windermere in the Lake District – again under ‘English Channel Rules’. Windermere is 10.5 miles-long and will be around the same temperature as the Channel.

Jody is raising money for two charities: the North London Military Wives Choir (a military welfare charity supporting women with a military connection) and ASSERT – Angelman Syndrome UK (supporting families affected by Angelman Syndrome – an extremely rare chromosomal disorder that results in severe learning, physical and neurological problems).
