New versatile scanner for eddy current array probes

03/02/2017

As a world leader in electromagnetic inspection technologies, Eddyfi has introduced what it claims is the most versatile scanner for surface eddy current array (ECA) inspections. This new manual scanner is designed to work with Eddyfi’s extensive range of standard ECA probes. Whether it is used for weld inspection or stress-corrosion cracking, ECA technology has the potential to significantly reduce the time required to perform surface inspections.

Since the first version of the standard probe catalogue was released in 2013, Eddyfi has worked relentlessly to make ECA probes more widely available for a variety of examinations on both ferrous and non-ferrous materials. This newest addition to the surface product line is the continuation of this effort.

The scanner is available with rods of different lengths, to achieve both a compact scanning configuration and a more significant overall width for an optimal ergonomic grip in certain situations. Eddyfi’s standard clip-on encoder (robust, waterproof and featuring a removable wheel for easy maintenance) can be attached to the standard probes or to the scanner itself, accommodating a broad range of geometries and applications. Eddyfi can also develop custom ECA probes to solve the most challenging applications and leverage the new scanner’s versatility.

The scanner is perfect for inspecting carbon steel welds, non-ferromagnetic welds (stainless steel, Inconel® and other alloys) and a variety of surfaces for cracking and other surface/subsurface defects. Combined with Reddy®, one of the most modern and capable ECA instruments for in-service inspections, it creates an ideal surface inspection solution to replace traditional NDT methods, when and where it is appropriate.
