ADI focuses on industry 4.0

Analog Devices Inc (ADI) is targeting industrial original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) with a cluster of Industry 4.0 announcements.

“We are focused on a set of solution areas that put existing brownfield infrastructure on a path to Industry 4.0,” said Brendan O’Dowd, ADI General Manager. “These solutions include deterministic Ethernet, security and condition-based monitoring.”

For example, ADcmXL3021 is a microelectromechanical systems (MEMS)-based sensing module for condition monitoring, where the triaxial vibration sensor inside is combined with built-in signal processing to provide data for the predictive maintenance of mechanical equipment.

Then there is the recently introduced 60 GHz industrial radar sensor family called LPR-1DHP-200, which can make one-dimensional distance measurements with millimetre-range accuracy for automation, transport and production processes.

For industrial networking, ADI is adding hardware-based identity for security at the edge of the network within a factory control loop.

The new capabilities are integrated with a real-time Ethernet multi-protocol switch with time-sensitive networking (TSN) features, including time synchronisation (802.1AS) pre-emption (802.1Qbu/br), to control industrial applications via OPC-UA.

“By combining security capabilities with TSN features, ADI is enabling state-of-the-art field device communication solutions at the edge of industrial networks,” claims the company.
