On 5 December 2019, Bundesanstalt für Materialforschung und -prüfung (BAM) and the University of Birmingham extended their Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for another three years. As part of this agreement, they are launching a virtual research centre for chemistry and materials sciences. The joint research centre will initially focus on materials characterisation, catalytic chemistry and corrosion research. In addition, the partners plan to work more closely together in the area of energy research.

Professor Ulrich Panne, BAM President, met with Professor Robin Mason, Pro-Vice-Chancellor (International) of the University of Birmingham, at BAM headquarters in Berlin for the ceremonial signing of the contract extension. “We are very pleased about continuing our close cooperation with the University of Birmingham,” stated Professor Panne. “Together we can contribute to the safety of new materials and technologies.”

Under the cooperation agreement, both partners will commit to staff exchanges, joint research experiments, workshops, seminars and publications, as well as exchanging data, materials and samples.
