F. Laeisz deploys Kaiko software

German shipping company Reederei F. Laeisz has introduced new software from Kaiko Systems to upgrade the condition monitoring of the 18 vessels in its fleet.

Kaiko Systems’ app-based tool for ship inspections can be used to structure and analyse data collected on board by the crew using artificial intelligence (AI), providing insights into the condition of the fleet and identifying potential risks in near real time.
Looking to update its maintenance processes, F. Laeisz was faced with the choice of developing its own new system or using a third-party software package. The Kaiko offering was chosen following the completion of a testing programme.

The application will be used to improve collaboration between teams on land and on board, ensuring continuous monitoring of the vessels from shore, compared with the previous process of carrying out two to three ship visits per year.

“We have high demands on our new system,” said Harald Schlotfeldt, Technical Director at F. Laeisz. “The software must, of course, be state-of-the-art. It must be easy and quick to implement, so that the changeover is as simple and convenient as possible for our teams on board and ashore, and it must help us to continuously optimise the condition of our fleet and thus prevent unpleasant surprises during maintenance procedures.

“The software from Kaiko Systems fulfils all of these requirements. The time savings, the increased energy efficiency and the cost savings that we can achieve with Kaiko Systems have convinced us.”

F. Laeisz is also currently preparing to switch to a SIRE 2.0 ship inspection system, which will leverage Kaiko’s tool to allow users on board to complete self-assessment and inspection preparation.
