Gearbox condition monitoring sensor launched

10/09/2025

Component specialist Lenord+Bauer has expanded its range of sensor products for condition monitoring of on-board equipment.
While the company’s CombiCODER products have been available to customers in the rail sector for many years, the sensor series has a new addition that is specifically aimed at gearbox condition monitoring.

The CombiCODER now combines sensors for measuring speed, vibration, shock and temperature in a modular housing system that is tailored to the gearbox application. In addition to analogue acquisition of vibration values, speed signals can also be supplied as an output. This allows the anticipated fundamental frequencies and harmonic frequencies to be assessed in order to detect any anomalies in the performance of the gearbox.

Instead of mounting three to four sensors, the supplier claims that just one sensor can now be installed in the transmission. The compact housing is similar to that of a conventional speed sensor to ensure ease of installation.

While the installation site remains unchanged, Lenord+Bauer claims that acceleration signals can be recorded in three axes and temperature data captured. This is intended to improve the efficiency and reliability of remote condition monitoring while minimising additional cost and downtime for the rolling stock concerned.
