Intelligent wet-mate system

Baker Hughes, an energy technology company, has launched SureCONNECT FE, a field-proven downhole fibre-optic wet-mate system that enables real-time, optimised reservoir performance in high-pressure, high-temperature environments.

The next-generation technology utilises a unique fibre-optic solution that connects the lower and upper completion of wells, significantly decreasing rig time, maintenance costs and health, safety and environmental risks.

SureCONNECT FE enables operators to seamlessly implement fibre-optic monitoring, electronic monitoring and electric intelligent completion systems across the entire wellbore at the sandface without an intervention, leading to enhanced production and more informed operational decisions. It also allows for workovers to be completed without retrieving the lower completion, significantly reducing the time required to service or reconfigure the upper completion.

“Built on decades of expertise, SureCONNECT FE’s data-driven insights allow for an enhanced understanding of reservoir behaviour that helps maximise production, even in the most challenging environments,” said Nathan Holland, Global Portfolio Director for Completions and Wellbore Intervention at Baker Hughes. “The electrification of upstream operations, through technologies such as SureCONNECT

FE, is transforming the industry and breaking new ground in terms of efficiency and reliability.”

SureCONNECT FE has proven effective in a variety of situations, including extended-reach or complex wells and subsea operations. It also works across a variety of completion techniques, including gravel or frac packs and standalone screens.
