PEC system for in-field corrosion inspection
27/08/2026
ETher NDE has announced the launch of BonPEC, an innovative pulsed eddy current technology (PECT) solution designed to transform corrosion detection and monitoring for insulated and coated assets.BonPEC delivers a powerful non-intrusive electromagnetic inspection technique based on pulsed eddy current (PEC), enabling the detection, measurement and long-term monitoring of corrosion in low-alloy carbon steel pipes and vessels, without the need to remove insulation or protective layers.
Industrial operators face significant challenges when inspecting assets protected by insulation, coatings, paints, concrete fireproofing or marine growth. Traditional inspection methods often require the costly and time-consuming removal of these layers before inspection. BonPEC overcomes these challenges by penetrating non-conductive layers and delivering accurate corrosion assessment and wall-thickness measurements directly through thermal insulation, protective coatings and paints, concrete fireproofing and marine growth.

This capability dramatically reduces downtime, inspection costs and safety risks, while improving asset integrity management strategies.
BonPEC has been engineered to deliver exceptional inspection capability in demanding industrial environments, measuring through wall thicknesses from 2 mm to 65 mm, with lift-off distances of up to 250 mm, while requiring no surface preparation.
The technology supports the inspection of pipes with a minimum diameter of 50 mm (2") and can operate through insulation across a wide temperature range from −150°C to 500°C, making it suitable for both cryogenic and high-temperature applications. This versatility makes BonPEC particularly effective for in-service corrosion monitoring, enabling operators to assess asset condition without disrupting operations.
BonPEC has been designed with usability and field efficiency in mind. The standard system kit includes two inspection probes, providing greater operational flexibility for different inspection scenarios. All core system components are supplied in a single rugged protective Peli-Case, ensuring easy transport and rapid deployment in the field. Users can choose between two touchscreen display configurations: a tablet-based system or a Notebook computer with a touchscreen interface. Both options run the integrated BonPEC software platform, which delivers automated inspection report generation, advanced graphical data visualisation and 3D projection of inspection results onto object models or site photographs, enabling inspectors and asset engineers to quickly interpret results and communicate findings easily and quickly across teams.
ETher NDE’s BonPEC is offered with inclusive pricing, meaning customers benefit from no annual software licensing fees or update charges. This approach provides predictable long-term ownership costs and ensures users always have access to the latest software capabilities.
BonPEC is engineered to support industries where corrosion under insulation (CUI) and hidden degradation present critical risks, such as the oil & gas, petrochemical, power generation and marine and offshore sectors.
By enabling reliable corrosion detection and monitoring without intrusive access, BonPEC empowers operators to make data-driven maintenance decisions, extend asset life and enhance operational safety.
With decades of expertise in advanced NDT instrumentation, ETher NDE continues to lead innovation in NDT technologies. BonPEC reflects the company’s commitment to delivering practical, high-performance solutions that address real-world inspection challenges.
