Range-finding UV inspection lamp

12/02/2024

Ultraviolet (UV) inspection lamps for aerospace fluorescent penetrant inspection (FPI) have to conform to strict limits regarding their maximum and minimum illumination intensities on the inspected part. While this is calibrated at a given working distance (usually 38 cm/15"), it is still possible that the UV intensity could be out of specification if the lamp is held too close or too far away from the working surface.

To solve this problem, Inspection Tech Ltd has released a new addition to its existing UVee range of inspection lamps that has a built-in rangefinder that automatically beeps if the lamp wanders outside of the maximum or minimum working distance required by the regulations.

Apart from this unique feature, the lamp is totally compliant with Rolls-Royce RRES 90061, Airbus AITM 6-1001 and ASTM E3022 and contains the ITECP embedded controller processing unit.

The ITECP provides the benefits of far tighter control of luminous power outputs, optimised battery management providing the longest operating time, the UV output remaining at the required level by compensating for the temperature of the light-emitting diodes (LEDs), full power and output stability in less than 3 s and total weight, including battery, of only 650 g.
