Phoenix Inspection Systems has appointed John Boughey as the new manager of its probe assembly department.

John, who has extensive manufacturing experience, is moving into the world of NDT after 30 years in the promotional goods industry. He started his career as a print worker before moving over to the manufacturing side. His most recent role was with SPS, a Blackpool-based trade supplier, as Production Manager in charge of injection moulding.

John will replace Ray Almgren, who is retiring after a 50-year career in the electronics industry, during which time he worked for companies including Manweb, Daresbury Laboratory and electronics manufacturer Racal. He joined Phoenix in 1996 and has been in charge of probe manufacturing for the past 12 years.

Chris Gregory, who is head of the probe department at Phoenix, said: “We’d like to thank Ray for all his hard work. Transducers have become one of the fastest growing areas of Phoenix’s business with sales of standard probes having increased by 50% over the past five years.

“John will build on Ray’s achievements and his experience in other areas of manufacturing will no doubt be very valuable as we continue to pursue improved efficiency and growth. Under his guidance, we will also continue with the introduction of initiatives such as lean manufacturing, continuous improvement and, of course, 5Ss.”
