“This was a difficult trip because of the security and nature of Basra these days, but it was useful and fruitful at the same time,“ said Thaer Al khouri, GE Oil & Gas Key Account Manager –

Of particular interest were GE’s Rightrax, Phasor DM, CR and DR, and XL G3 solutions. As more than 90% of NDT in Iraq is still carried out using conventional technology and equipment, the opportunity to see phased array, TOFD and computerised radiography proved extremely interesting.
Particular problems faced by the NDT industry in Iraq include:
- Importing of isotopes
- Rarity of UT experts
- Need for simple and high probability of detection equipment
- Difficulty in understanding English software.
