ESR Technology, one of the UK's leading engineering, safety and risk consultancies, has announced that Dr Martin Wall, one of its Principal Materials Engineers, has been given an Outstanding Service Award by the Institute of Materials, Minerals and Mining (IOM3).

The Institute's Local Affairs Board awards up to three Outstanding Service Awards each year in recognition of achievement and commitment which has not previously been acknowledged elsewhere. The award recognises significant contributions to the Institute made through a local group or affiliated society and the recipient is normally an Institute member who has held a position as an officer of a local committee for at least eight years.

"Martin has been providing a sterling service as Secretary of the Oxford Materials Society for the past 15 years," said Sarah Boad, National Coordinator of the IOM3. "By taking the lead on organising lecture evenings, managing the Society's website and working tirelessly to make the Society the success it is today, he thoroughly deserves his award."

The Institute of Materials, Minerals and Mining (IOM3) was officially recognised by the UK's Privy Council on 26 June 2002. Created from the merger of The Institute of Materials (IOM) and The Institution of Mining and Metallurgy (IMM), the Institute's aim is to become the leading international professional body for the advancement of materials, minerals and mining to governments, industry, academia, the public and the professions.
