Eclipse Scientific to deliver EN 473 courses in Canada

07/07/2010

July 19 2010 will see the first delivery of EN 473/ISO 9712 approved training in Canada under the CSWIP Scheme for advanced UT.

Eclipse Scientific, based in Waterloo, Ontario, has been providing training for advanced NDT methods throughout Canada and other parts of the world for many years. With experienced lecturers, many holding CSWIP Level 3 in advanced UT methods, it is well placed to offer a comprehensive programme of advanced UT which, beginning in July, will include:
  • Time-of-Flight Diffraction UT
  • Manual & Encoded Phased Array Inspection of Welds
  • AUT Data Interpretation
  • Certification Course for AUT Technicians.
These courses are currently delivered by TWI Training & Examination Services in the UK, Middle East and South East Asia.

These additional courses complement an already established set of advanced UT equipment and technique development training courses and will make Eclipse Scientific the first non-TWI company to deliver CSWIP-approved training for advanced UT courses.

TWI's relationship with Eclipse began in 2003 with work on the PA, TOFD and AUT programmes. Mr Ed Ginzel, author of the handbook 'Automated Ultrasonic Testing for Girth Welds' provided assistance and input for each of the courses, and has also been a long-time supporter of the CSWIP brand, particularly with the absence of EN 473 certification available in Canada. This gap in the market was identified and prompted discussion with Eclipse Scientific, resulting in their subsequent approach and application to CSWIP Ltd to conduct training and certification, in collaboration with TWI Training in the UK.

Formed over 10 years ago, Eclipse Scientific has personnel with over 20 years' experience in the NDT industry, spanning all methods and specialising in development of products and techniques, specifically in UT. It is involved with the power generation, petrochemical, medical and aerospace sectors, and offers project management, service inspection, innovative product design and software, as well as training.

They are also developers of the popular ESBeamTool software utilised by many ultrasonic inspection users to easily design, simulate and generate comprehensive documentation for inspection plans.
With relocation of the TWI North America office in Houston, Texas, TWI Training & Examination Services will be working closely with Eclipse Scientific to meet the EN 473 training requirements in advanced UT for both Canada and the Americas.
