Rapid response to instrument rental request

Instrumentation specialist Ashtead Technology came to the rescue of a client urgently in need of concrete testing equipment by providing express delivery within a matter of hours.

Mark Tyler, from Leicester-based Morrison Construction, contacted Ashtead Technology to enquire about the availability of a Schmidt concrete tester and hammer set to carry out urgent testing at a new leisure development on the outskirts of London.

By lunchtime the same day, Ashtead Technology had couriered the instrumentation to the site to determine the strength of concrete foundations.

Schmidt concrete hammers provide a non-destructive test method for the assessment of concrete/mortar compressive strength and uniformity, as well as for the detection of weak spots. The hammer is designed for testing concrete items 4" (100 mm) or more in thickness, or concrete with a maximum particle size less than or equal to 1.25" (32 mm).

Mark told NDT News: "Due to unforeseen circumstances, contractors had to carry out extra concrete tests before proceeding to the next stage of construction, so we needed a test hammer as quickly as possible.

"The service from Ashtead Technology was excellent and we kept it on hire for the rest of the week in case any further requirements arose."

Ashtead Technology General Manager Alan Hasson added: "We pride ourselves on the speed with which we are able to respond to urgent customer needs, so we were delighted to be able to help. As in all cases, the instrumentation was delivered fully calibrated and ready for immediate use."
