Burckhardt expands in the Middle East

Burckhardt Compression (Burckhardt) has won an order for digital monitoring services in Saudi Arabia. The order will be supported by the opening of a new service facility in the country.

Burckhardt will supply its Prognost NT system to upgrade and digitalise a customer’s reciprocating compressor installation. The installation of vibration probes and pressure-volume monitoring instrumentation will provide a higher level of monitoring precision than was previously applied in this installation.

Prognost NT automatically recognises changing machine operating conditions and adjusts the monitoring thresholds to avoid false warnings caused by variables such as changing pressure, speed and vibration during different phases of production. Conventional monitoring methods use piston rod position measurements for wear monitoring purposes only. Prognost NT uses the dynamic piston rod position for rider ring wear calculation and to monitor the mechanical condition of the piston rod, piston and crosshead connections.

Prognost NT processes the online pressure-volume (P-V) diagram using dedicated analyses to optimise machinery performance and to detect leaks, such as suction/discharge valves, packing or piston rings. Furthermore, the system calculates dynamic piston rod loads to provide an early warning of overload.

Each Prognost NT system automatically generates and saves new damage patterns when component failures occur. All major failures are analysed and integrated as failure patterns into the diagnostic database of the default systems, along with more than 150 patterns derived from millions of operating hours.

In alignment with regional initiatives to boost local value creation and capacity building, Burckhardt will open a dedicated service centre in Al Jubail, Saudi Arabia, for conducting factory acceptance testing of the Prognost panels, enhancing its customer service in the Middle East. According to Burckhardt, this strategic investment will ensure that specialised operational support is readily available, improves operational efficiency and positions the company to capitalise on future business opportunities in the region.
