Power generation seminar hosted by Olympus

06/06/2013

On 30 May, Olympus Industrial hosted a Power Generation Seminar at the Manufacturing Technology Centre (MTC) in Coventry. The event attracted delegates and advanced users from across the power generation industry, as well as inspection and rental companies operating within this field. The focus of the event was to demonstrate key applications for the range of Olympus products used in this market sector.

The event featured eight talks over the course of the day, covering the three main product areas of non-destructive testing (NDT), remote visual inspection (RVI) and X-ray fluorescence (XRF). The presentations included demonstrations and videos of applications, after which there were hands-on sessions in order that the systems could be used on representative samples. One session that sparked particular interest amongst the registrants at the event involved ‘Phased array inspection of small diameter piping using the Olympus Cobra scanner combined with the Omniscan MX2’, which is designed for shear or longitudinal inspection as well as TOFD for the inspection of welds in small diameter pipes. Other talks included ‘Advances in flexible eddy current array technology’ and ‘Hydroform phased array corrosion mapping’. Further information on the topics covered is available by contacting industrial@olympus.co.uk

During the lunch break, the MTC kindly provided a tour of the venue to those attending the seminar, in order that the delegates could see for themselves the developments and projects being worked on at the MTC. At the end of the day there was strong feedback from the delegates that the event had been successful in raising awareness of the latest advanced technologies applicable to the power generation industry.
