Key renewables appointment heralds expansion for TRAC Renewables

01/06/2023

As a leading provider of industrial inspection, maintenance and repair (IM&R) services, TRAC Energy is set to further its commitment to the energy transition with the launch of a new division to further enhance the company’s position in the renewables market.
As a leader in IM&R, TRAC Energy has a long history of successfully supporting offshore energy operations and has just unveiled the addition of a renewables-focused talent acquisition arm. Recruitment specialist John Lamond has been brought on board to lead the new service in a role that will be pivotal in sourcing candidates for TRAC’s renewables projects and providing external clients with a professional recruitment solution.

John’s career spans almost two decades and he brings to the team a wealth of recruitment and business development experience across the engineering, construction, industrial and offshore sectors and this will be crucial in driving future growth.
John is joined by recruitment consultant Rebecca Wilson and the pair will build the team to keep pace with activity in Scotland and beyond.

These appointments continue a hiring strategy that has seen the recent expansion of service delivery (project management, engineering, analytics and technology) and senior management teams.  Further appointments are planned to support new technical products services and TRAC Energy is currently participating in the Fit 4 Offshore Renewables scheme.

Founded in Aberdeen in 1999, TRAC Energy employs circa 200 staff, with annual revenues approaching £20 million. It is part of the

TRAC International Group, which provides first-class engineering products and services to the global energy, telecoms and infrastructure sectors, with a total workforce of around 400 employees.

Early engagement with onshore wind prospecting, offshore support during UK round two construction, the development of a rotor blade leading edge protection (LEP) product and a strong IM&R presence in traditional energy sectors has positioned  TRAC Energy to strongly support the energy transition. Enhanced focus came in 2020 as momentum gathered and today a dedicated renewables team, headed by Joel Telling, delivers seamless through-life asset assurance solutions, acting as a specialist partner for the renewables sector both in the UK and leveraging the group’s extensive international footprint.

The company is now poised to gain earlier access to project lifecycles by taking to the market an even more integrated offering.
Commenting on the launch, Joel said: “We have a long-standing commitment to creating an expert team with a shared vision to deliver best-in-class renewables solutions. Expansion of that team to offer professional talent acquisition alongside project IM&R services is a natural extension and will make a compelling value proposition for our current and prospective clients.

“As well as finding and recruiting trained and experienced staff for projects we are involved in ourselves, our services will be in demand across the wider industry as renewables projects and the need for good people who can hit the ground running continue to gather pace.”

John added: “This is an exciting time to join the TRAC Energy renewables team and I look forward to using my years of experience to help unlock the potential of this new division. TRAC Energy already has a range of highly transferrable products, services, experience, knowledge and skills that fit well within the renewables sector, so it makes sense to take all of that into the sphere of talent acquisition.

“In terms of our own team growth, I am also passionate about training and developing the next generation of recruiters and working closely with training providers to gain the best candidates available for TRAC Renewables’ projects and the external market. Our business will open up vital skill transfer opportunities for those seeking to begin new chapters in their energy-sector careers.”
