It is 25 years with Argyll-Ruane

The accompanying picture shows Argyll-Ruane’s Director David Betts at the presentation of Robin Dawson’s 25-year service award – the first in the company’s history! The fact that it is the first is perhaps not surprising when you realise that Robin joined Argyll-Ruane in late 1985, only months after the company was formed.

Robin operates in multiple roles in ARL, covering training, certification and consultancy. He has tutored and marked thousands of examinations during the last 25 years.

Indeed, ARL Examinations has run over 50,000 exams in that period – with as many course candidates – and now operates throughout the world. This is all very different from the beginning of the company, when the first course was for five members of the old CEGB training scheme undertaking ultrasonic courses. Since that time, ARL now offers over 40 standard course programmes, from appreciation through to Level III, including NDT and inspection methods ranging from ultrasonics across to fireproofing inspection!

ARL has recently been investing in a wide-ranging development programme, including new facilities for ultrasonics (TOFD), eddy current and radiography, to name but three areas.

ARL retains its original ‘motto’ – ‘professional services for professional people’ – and the company is very proud of the fact that key staff like Robin have been involved in the long-term success of Argyll-Ruane. Indeed, Robin and four other senior staff are currently in the final stages of their BSc in Non-Destructive Testing degrees via Northampton University. Robin also carries multiple ASNT/PCN Level 3/IIIs. He is viewed by Argyll-Ruane as a dedicated professional more than willing to share his knowledge/skills and he has tutored multiple new entrants into the industry, in addition to the more experienced members of the NDT community.
