VSG and North Star Imaging sign joint partnership agreement

06/03/2013

FEI’s Visualization Sciences Group (VSG) and North Star Imaging (NSI) have announced the signing of an OEM partnership agreement between the two companies. North Star Imaging will begin offering VSG’s Avizo® Fire high-end 3D visualisation and analysis software as an integrated component with its 3D X-ray scanning solutions.

NSI’s high-speed, high-resolution 3D computed tomography
X-ray imaging systems will be enhanced by now also offering VSG’s ability to supply fast analysis and modelling of the collected data. This combination provides the best-in-class solutions from both companies and facilitates a wide range of research & development applications while improving in-line production testing.

According to Abigail D Lape, Research Scientist in the Global Food Research Group at Cargill: “The collaboration ensures Cargill’s place at the forefront of providing complete solutions to our clients and customers in the areas of food research, safety and forensics. The NSI ImagiX system provides imagery beyond basic visualisation to a level of high-definition imaging, which assists in revealing the structure-function relationships in complex systems containing a wide range of components. In addition, the VSG Avizo Fire software package provides versatility in acquiring quantitative information, giving us the further insight often required for proper characterisation of these systems.”

North Star Imaging’s X-View CT series systems integrate what is said to be the most powerful CT reconstruction and visualisation software available, including modules for calibration, measurement, real-time segmentation and surface extraction (point cloud and CAD capabilities). Through the use of NSI’s proprietary efX-CT software, CT system speed and ease of use is unmatched in the industry. This software offers a simple five-step start-to-finish CT process, plus the ability to upgrade existing systems from DR to CT. The integration of VSG’s Avizo Fire software allows for additional advanced inspections above and beyond what is currently included with efX-CT.

Avizo Fire software from VSG allows the import and fusion of multi-modal 2D and 3D data and gives insight into the material and component properties on full 3D structures, at any scale and size. Using powerful volume rendering, segmentation, 3D reconstruction and quantification tools, Avizo Fire enables researchers and engineers to perform interactive exploration, visualisation, analysis and measurement, as well as to deliver powerful presentations of their results. For materials science or industrial inspection, Avizo Fire offers high-performance capabilities with powerful automation mechanisms.

“NSI’s scanning solutions complemented by VSG’s Avizo Fire software represent an optimum combination for the industrial inspection market,” says Patrick Barthelemy, VSG General Manager for North America. “This comprehensive offering efficiently addresses the high image quality and accuracy requirements in NDT and greatly improves analysis and inspection productivity throughout all phases of a material or product’s life-cycle.”

“VSG’s Avizo Fire software adds even more capabilities to NSI’s already feature-rich computed tomography X-ray systems,” says John Clark, NSI’s CT Product Manager. “Avizo Fire visualises the 3D CT dataset exceptionally well and provides a solution for even the most complex inspection requirements.”

The combined X-View CT computed tomography system/Avizo Fire solution is available immediately through North Star Imaging’s existing sales channels.
