Robotic internal pipe crawler
13/03/2024
TSC Subsea has launched Triton, a bidirectional tethered in-line inspection (ILI) pipeline integrity solution, which is an innovative robotic crawler that is set to redefine internal pipeline integrity assessments of unpiggable or non-piggable pipelines.
The robotic internal pipe crawler utilises triple independently powered tracks to ensure traction even in the most challenging conditions. Triton can deliver multiple non-destructive testing (NDT) techniques to the inspection surface, even at distances of up to 300 m or in submersed or flooded conditions up to depths of 150 m.
Pipeline operators commonly opt for ILI pigging systems, but these methods require specific pig launching and receiving facilities. The pipeline is typically labelled as non-piggable or challenging to inspect when such facilities are unavailable. This is where Triton comes into its element.
The adaptable Triton tethered ILI internal pipe crawler can operate in both dry and wet environments. It can integrate various NDT techniques based on the inspection requirement, including corrosion mapping, wall thickness measurements, ovality and dents assessment, weld inspection, remote visual inspection and through coating or unprepared heavily corroded surface inspections.
Advanced NDT technology options include alternating current field measurement (ACFM) for detecting and sizing surface-breaking cracks in welds, phased array ultrasonic testing (PAUT) for high-resolution quantitative wall thickness measurements, corrosion mapping and volumetric weld inspection, acoustic resonance technology (ART) for quantitative wall thickness measurements, through coating and unprepared surfaces, pulsed eddy current (PEC) for inspecting highly corroded and scab surfaces, remote visual inspection (RVI) with a high-resolution pan, tilt and zoom (PTZ) camera and laser scanning for a comprehensive 360° internal assessment.
Triton’s robust and field-proven adaptable chassis can be customised for intricate inspections across various pipe sizes, orientations and pipes containing internal piping. Triton has the ability to navigate horizontal, vertical and multiple bends, even in flooded conditions.
