Plant inspection qualifications address staff shortages

02/05/2007

Many onshore and offshore plant operators are experiencing shortages of inspectors for the in-service inspection of pressure plant and related mechanical equipment. They are also under increasing pressure to demonstrate the training and competence of their mechanical/plant inspectors to safety authorities and accreditation bodies.

As part of its portfolio of pressure system and inspection-related training courses, Matthews Engineering Training Ltd offers UK plant inspection training courses for ASME plant inspector and API Individual Certification Programme (ICP) examinations. The ASME plant inspector is a 5-day (non-renewable) qualification course covering the basics of plant inspection. The API courses are longer combined on-line/residential courses covering API 570: Certified Piping Inspector, API 510: Certified Pressure Vessel Inspector and API 653: Certified Storage Tank Inspector.

2007 will see the addition of new courses for the recently-introduced supplemental certification programmes: API 571: Corrosion Mechanisms and API 580: RBI. Over 2000 delegates (many with existing NDT qualifications) have been trained, improving their acceptance into the plant inspection discipline and widening their individual and company employment prospects.

A combination of public and in-house training courses are presented throughout the year. For further information call Cliff Matthews directly on 07732 799351 or visit the website www.matthews-training.co.uk
