HVPD unveils a safer way to conduct asset condition monitoring
31/05/2019
Global engineering company High Voltage Partial Discharge (HVPD) has recently launched a new product that will make it safer and easier to monitor the condition of electrical assets. The HVPD Kronos® Lite is a permanent three-channel partial discharge (PD) monitor, engineered to provide maintenance teams with information about the electrical insulation condition of a medium-voltage (MV) switchgear.
The product was developed using the same patented technology, developed in collaboration with US energy giants Chevron, that saw HVPD scoop a Queen’s Award for Innovation in 2014.
PD is electrical discharge across localised areas of insulation, caused by deterioration or improper installation. If left unchecked, it can cause unplanned operational outages or even catastrophic failure. Proper PD monitoring enables better maintenance decision-making and also helps to safeguard on-site personnel.
The new HVPD Kronos Lite provides 24/7 insulation data via the HVPD Kronos WebView, which is available remotely using any device connected to the local network.
Developed for the condition-based maintenance schemes of secondary, remote and unmanned substations, the HVPD Kronos Lite can be installed inside or outside of the switchgear cabinet to suit any physical access restrictions.
