28/05/2026

Following Hunterston B Power Station’s transfer to the Nuclear Decommissioning Authority (NDA), Kaefer UK & Ireland has assumed responsibility for access and insulation services at the site, strengthening its support across the UK’s nuclear decommissioning programme.

Effective from 1 April 2026, the transition marks the beginning of Hunterston B’s next phase as it enters decommissioning under Nuclear Restoration Services (NRS).

The change ensures continuity of service delivery and builds on Kaefer’s established relationship with NRS, supporting the safe and efficient progression of works across the site.

As part of the transition, new colleagues have joined Kaefer, bringing valuable experience and site knowledge to support ongoing operations.

Kaefer now delivers access and insulation services for NRS across six sites: Wylfa, Trawsfynydd, Sizewell A, Chapelcross, Hunterston A and Hunterston B.

Nick Walters, Nuclear & Defence Director of Kaefer UK & Ireland, commented: “This is an important step forward in our relationship with NRS and reflects the trust placed in Kaefer to support the next phase at Hunterston B. We are especially pleased to welcome 20 new colleagues into the business. Their knowledge of the site is invaluable and they play a key role in ensuring a smooth and safe
transition.”

This latest development reinforces Kaefer’s position as a trusted partner in the UK nuclear sector, supporting safe, efficient and reliable delivery across decommissioning sites.
