GE Inspection Technologies now offers on-site inspection services

03/10/2012

The Coventry-based Inspection Technologies business of GE Measurement & Control Solutions can now provide on-site remote visual inspections (RVI) with the latest RVI equipment operated by trained GE technicians. This will allow companies to enjoy the benefits of RVI, especially in unanticipated inspection situations, without the need for any capital investment. As such, the new inspection service will be of interest to organisations in the oil, gas and petrochemical, pharmaceutical, power generation, automotive and aerospace sectors.

“RVI can be used for all kinds of non-destructive inspection,” explains Kexin Hu, Manager of RVI Services in Coventry. “It can verify structural integrity, display corrosion/erosion, reveal loose components within machinery, locate tools and fasteners that may have been lost inside equipment and identify potential problem areas. It can be used in isolation and it can also be used to support other NDT techniques. However, in these days of tight capital expenditure budgets, many organisations do not have access to their own RVI equipment. As a result, RVI inspections are often omitted from maintenance schedules and the benefits of RVI in many situations are lost. This new service will help to rectify this situation and, as the equipment will be operated by trained GE personnel, it will also ensure that inspections are carried out as efficiently and cost-effectively as possible.”

Today’s RVI equipment extends from the extremely portable to robotic crawlers. The latest portable instruments include the XLGo+, which offers improved probability of detection (POD) to provide increased efficiency, reliability and productivity in a range of inspection tasks in confined, hard-to-reach locations. The robust XL Go+ sets new standards of light output, image quality and precise steerability and incorporates powerful measuring tools.

Menu Driven Inspection is now available for the XLG0.platform. This is an intelligence tool that guides remote visual inspection users through the inspection process and auto-generates a data report. The software elevates user productivity, ultimately providing a 35-70% time saving from previous inspection and data management methods. Other RVI equipment available with the new service includes the Ca-Zoom PTZ6.2, which features three different camera diameters and is suitable for remote viewing in large areas.
