Test, measurement and inspection take centre stage at Advanced Engineering UK

11/10/2012

Bringing together multiple high-value engineering and technology streams, this year’s Advanced Engineering UK group of events, one of the fastest growing engineering and technology events in Europe, is preparing for record attendance for its biggest ever ‘test, measurement and inspection’ programme.

The group of events takes place 7-8 November 2012 at the NEC, Birmingham, UK, and The British Institute of NDT (BINDT) is a ‘key supporter’.

Building on record attendances in 2011, the 2012 event line-up assembles, under one giant roof, four individually-focused yet highly synergetic trade shows targeted at key ‘high value’ engineering and technology sectors: Aero Engineering 2012, The Composites Engineering Show 2012, UK Plastic Electronics Show 2012 and ‘new for 2012’ Automotive Engineering 2012 – supporting the UK’s resurgent and dynamic vehicle engineering sector. The 2012 group of co-locating shows brings together 450+ UK and international exhibitors as one integrated experience, supported by 140+ free-to-attend presentations over the two days, with an anticipated attendance of 8,000-10,000.

‘Test, measurement and inspection’ again takes a leading role in the 2012 group of events, with a dedicated Testing Measurement & Inspection Focus Stream showcasing, across the interconnected show floor, 100+ test-related exhibitors in testing, evaluation, simulation, analysis, measurement, certification, compliance, qualification, quality, inspection and monitoring, together with technical presentations over the two-day event, supported by key bodies, including The Chartered Quality Institute (CQI), The British Institute of NDT (BINDT), Quality Manufacturing Today (QMT), MIRA and Millbrook.

The technology, equipment and specialist test capabilities on display this year cover a broad range of application areas, including: virtual testing simulation and analysis in the areas of vibration and acoustic testing; biomechanics; fluid dynamics and solid mechanics; computational electromagnetics; advanced materials analysis; systems engineering; EMC; and more – applied from design concept stage through to final-stage testing and validation, and beyond.

In the physical test and evaluation sector, representation includes: structural and fatigue testing; wind tunnel testing; human factors testing; EMC testing; software testing; engine testing; sensors and transducers; data acquisition and analysis; data visualisation; materials and composites testing; power testing; environmental and durability testing; brake and powertrain; emissions testing; lightning strike testing; safety testing; impact and crash testing; optical measurement; strain and deformation; pressure measurement; non-destructive testing; coating thickness; mechanical testing; dynamic testing; and much more.

Quality inspection capability is additionally represented in all areas of: NDT/NDE; visual inspection; quality management; dimensional metrology; gauging and inspection; vision systems; alignment; metrology software; coordinate measuring machines; non-contact measuring machines; inspection equipment; large volume metrology; and thermal imaging, to cite just a few.

The focus is aimed at attending industry ‘test’ professionals throughout the engineering lifecycle, including: R&D engineers; design engineers; development engineers; testing, evaluation and qualification engineers; test cell and laboratory teams; production and assembly engineers; quality managers; maintenance/aftermarket and MRO teams.

Some of the 2012 Test/Measurement/Inspection Open Presentation Forum programme topics include:
  • Optical 3D measurement for quality control in the aerospace industry (Alicona UK Ltd);
  • How to get started on quality initiatives – How to do AS9100 and Nadcap (hosted by PRI (Performance Review Institute) and UKQMS);
  • Why engage with NDT/CM? (BINDT);
  • Digital image correlation: full-field optical measurement for FEA validation and material assessment (Dantec Dynamics Ltd);
  • 3D non-contact structured light scanning of aerospace and automotive components (Phase Vision Ltd);
  • Advances in active thermography for inspection of CFRP and GFRP components (LOT Oriel Ltd).
Open ‘Test’ focus presentation ‘sessions’ are segmented into two themes: Development Test and Engineering plus Quality Management, Inspection and NDT.
