23/10/2014 NDT apprenticeship scheme gets go-ahead
The British Institute of Non-Destructive Testing (BINDT) has announced that it has been successful in obtaining agreement to develop an apprenticeship standard for non-destructive testing (NDT) under the government’s new Phase 3 Trailblazer Apprenticeships programme, which will give employers across the NDT industry and beyond an exciting opportunity to shape the future of training and employment in the NDT industry. The news follows the announcement by the Rt Hon Vince Cable, Secretary of State for Business, Innovation and Skills, of the latest cohort of employers that will be developing a number of apprenticeship standards across a variety of UK industries.

Failure analysis is the engineering process of analysing the cause of equipment failure using physical and chemical techniques.
Failure analysis equipment is used in the manufacturing industry primarily for new product development and to improve the quality of existing products. This equipment is used to find the root cause of failure and prevent its reoccurrence. Common causes of failure include misuse, manufacturing defects, assembly errors, design errors, improper materials, improper maintenance, improper heat treatments, inadequate quality assurance, inadequate environmental protection/control, unforeseen operating conditions and casting discontinuities.
