Eddy current array flaw detector

27/10/2026

Engineered from real-world input, the NORTEC 700 flaw detector is said to bring new levels of eddy current usability, performance and affordability within easy reach of more aviation customers, maintenance, repair and operations (MRO), independent service providers (ISPs) and original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) than ever before. With the NORTEC 700, conventional eddy current testing (ECT) and advanced eddy current array (ECA) inspections are now available in one seamless platform, serving a variety of aerospace, defence, industrial and manufacturing applications.

The lightweight NORTEC 700 flaw detector is available in three operator-friendly models: the N700 (single frequency) provides proven ECT for everyday inspections; the N700D expands versatility with enhanced dual-frequency and bolt-hole capabilities; and the N700i offers both ECT and advanced ECA and layer detection. Based on the proven NORTEC 600 series, all three models share the same ergonomic design, simplified workflows and digital ecosystem compatibility, ensuring seamless training and easy fleet standardisation.

A new standard in non-destructive testing (NDT) inspection, the NORTEC 700 is an innovative, accessible, unified solution that works the way you work: quickly, efficiently and reliably. The NORTEC 700 is ideal for surface/subsurface inspection, bolt-hole inspection, conductivity and coating thickness measurement, weld inspection, critical hole inspection and dual-frequency inspection, it is claimed.

The NORTEC 700 is instantly easy to use with a comfortable, lightweight design, streamlined controls and intuitive interface, helping operators work faster, stay focused and trust every result.

An evolution of the proven and familiar NORTEC 600 interface, the NORTEC 700 navigation system minimises the steps needed for successful inspection. Common tasks, such as loading presets, adjusting gain or reviewing signals, can be completed with fewer key presses and clearer visual cues, accelerating set-up and reducing the potential for error. A simplified navigation design also helps reduce operator fatigue, improving accuracy and productivity.

The NORTEC 700 turns complex inspection set-up into a guided, intuitive process with intelligent, application-based presets. Each preset automatically configures key parameters for selected probes and inspection types: bolt hole, rivet line or surface crack, eliminating guesswork and reducing set-up time to seconds.

With preconfigured set-ups, field crews can start inspections with minimal training, knowing that parameters are already optimised for accuracy and compliance. This built-in intelligence ensures consistency across operators and shifts, enforces compliance and dramatically reduces the risk of operator error.

The NORTEC 700 supports a wide range of accessories and probes, both legacy NORTEC 600 components and new-generation arrays, ensuring compatibility with future toolsets as technology advances. This means customers can expand capabilities over time, whether adding specialised probes or adopting new array technologies.

The NORTEC 700 platform introduces not only a new flaw detector but an entirely new generation of eddy current array probe technology (up to 256 channels), delivering superior repeatability, uniform signal quality from probe to probe and simple calibration. These new probes feature a redesigned body for improved ergonomics, an embedded encoder for legacy compatibility, a configurable remote switch and an innovative new wedge concept that increases application flexibility. Advanced users can design custom wedges to enable adaptation to virtually any geometry.
