SGS NDT Training Centre and PCN Authorised Qualifying Body officially launched in Shanghai

Following a comprehensive and successful audit conducted by the Certification Services Division of The British Institute of NDT (BINDT) against the demanding PCN CP9 criteria for Authorised Qualifying Bodies (AQB), on 14 July 2008 the SGS NDT Training & Examination Centre officially launched its services in Shanghai, China, and conducted its first ever NDT Training and PCN examinations.

SGS is able to conduct a range of PCN examinations in Shanghai and around the region, in both the English and Chinese languages, as the market demands. Examinations are graded by PCN authorised SGS examiners, and an examination results notice is issued to the candidate and to BINDT. On receipt of a results notice confirming success in the examination(s) attempted, BINDT will issue a PCN certificate, valid for 5 years, directly to the candidate.

PCN certification is recognised and accepted globally, and the PCN Scheme, which is accredited by the United Kingdom Accreditation Service (UKAS certificate 030), is an extremely reputable and highly respected certification scheme. PCN certification of competence for Non-Destructive Testing and Condition Monitoring personnel is increasingly becoming the most commonly specified qualification for NDT and CM personnel around the world. In fact, there are now PCN certificate holders living and working in over 56 countries worldwide, and PCN examinations are permanently or periodically available on five continents!

"The need for high quality NDT service in China is growing at such a rapid pace that this new service offered by SGS is essential to create the much needed availability of PCN / EN 473 certified personnel in China. This vast market demands an improvement in the reputation, product quality and a more competitive edge in the international trade arena. The new services offered by SGS are essential for Chinese and International companies to manage the fuel growth of the economy," Jason Scott, Director of SGS NDT Training & Examination Centre said. Jason has many years' experience in the NDT industry and in particular, the PCN certification scheme.

The brand new SGS NDT Training & Examination Centre facility is conveniently located close to the Shanghai International Pudong airport at Kangqiao Industrial Zone, an area of around 700 m2. Training and examinations are available on a continuous, first come, first served basis with an 'initial' capacity of around 800 examinations per year. All courses will be held in Shanghai, or at clients' premises should it be specifically requested.
