Exova gains increased Airbus approval

A specialist NDT laboratory operated by global testing group Exova has been approved by Airbus to carry out three methods of non-destructive testing considered vital to the aerospace sector.

Martyn Bills, Technical Manager at Exova’s Dudley lab, has now been approved by Airbus as a Level 3 NDT specialist for three testing methods: radiography, magnetic particle flaw detection and penetrant flaw detection.

The approval means that Exova Dudley can carry out these critical tests for the aerospace giant, which requires an NDT Level 3 technician to oversee such work. Level 3 approval signifies attainment of the highest level of competence.

Martyn has already been accredited as an NDT Level 3 technician under the separate ASNT scheme (American Society for Nondestructive Testing), an international qualification that is designed to establish a minimum standard of competency for NDT personnel across the globe.

However, many of the prime aerospace manufacturers, including Airbus, also require personnel to test to their own Level 3 standards.

Jonathan Pugh, General Manager, NDT Services for Exova Dudley, said: “Airbus is a key customer for Exova so we are delighted to have expanded our testing capability in this manner.

“The Level 3 accreditation is prestigious, it further demonstrates our commitment to the aerospace sector and consistently ensures we have the highest trained staff available.”
