The inaugural European Network for Accreditation of Engineering Education (ENAEE) European Accreditation Agencies’ Summit took place at the headquarters of the Ordem dos Engenheiros (Order of Engineers) in Lisbon, Portugal, in June 2024. This groundbreaking event was organised by the ENAEE in collaboration with the Ordem, the regulatory and licensing body for the engineering profession in Portugal, which has a mutual recognition agreement with the Engineering Council in the UK.
This summit marked a significant milestone in the promotion of quality in engineering education across Europe and beyond. It brought together leaders from ENAEE member agencies for meaningful discussions on improving engineering education, training and professional accreditation.
The opening session featured presentations by Fernando de Almeida Santos, President of the Order of Engineers, Lídia Santiago, Vice President of the Order of Engineers, and José Carlos Quadrado, President of the ENAEE. Their speeches highlighted the crucial role of collaboration and innovation in upholding high standards in engineering education.
Representing the Engineering Council at this landmark event was Katy Turff, Deputy CEO and Head of Policy and Standards, who said: “The ENAEE Summit was a welcome opportunity to collaborate and learn with colleagues from Europe and beyond who share our commitment to developing globally responsible engineers.”
The summit offered a unique platform for Europe’s engineering accreditation agencies to share knowledge, ideas and best practices, paving the way for future initiatives aimed at improving engineering education in the interests of people, the planet and prosperity.
