During the NDT 2017 Conference and Materials Testing Exhibition in September, I was presented with the Lifetime Achievement Award by Caroline Bull, BINDT President, at the Annual Conference Dinner. I was then handed the microphone so that I could give a ten-minute speech. At the time, I really could not find the words to say how honoured, proud and grateful I felt; yes, I was stuck for those words and had a few tears instead! I also heard somebody (a man) say quite loudly that he had never seen me in this predicament before, ever. He was right!I would now like to take this opportunity to say thank you to BINDT, all its members and every company, together with all those employees, who actually gave me the opportunities I had from the age of 17 years old to make my life in NDT so purposeful.
In 2013, I was the first woman ever to be awarded an Honorary Fellowship by BINDT and I felt humbled but also proud and honoured. Now, with the Lifetime Achievement Award, I feel so honoured and thankful that only writing it down can express how I feel. Thank you. Regards from Gail.
