A Mechanical Inspector is sought to join a company based in the Royal Naval Armaments Depot (RNAD) Coulport, Helensburgh, Scotland. The company is the single contractor providing specialist waterfront in-service support to one of the Royal Navy’s submarine programmes. This is a full-time role that benefits from a four-day working week (36 hours) Monday-Thursday, giving the successful candidate every Friday off work.

Duties/responsibilities:

  • Carry out preventative and corrective maintenance on service units (including non-destructive testing (NDT) and air conditioning/refrigerant tasks) and ancillary surface support equipment (SSE)
  • Carry out corrective maintenance on defective flight hardware when required in accordance with NSI approved documentation
  • Carry out equipment modifications in accordance with approved modification packages
  • Provide operational support during active states on strategic weapons system (SWS)-related activities
  • Support training activities
  • Carry out building user checks
  • Carry out Lifting Operations and Lifting Equipment Regulations (LOLER) examinations of lifting equipment
  • Input maintenance information into the database
  • Perform RBMTV maintenance and frame hoist testing as required
  • Attend required facility training and weapon system training as assigned. 
  • The successful candidate must achieve the appropriate level (developed vetting (DV)) of security clearance. 

Required skills, qualifications and experience:

  • An apprenticeship, Ordinary National Certificate (ONC), Higher National Certificate (HNC)or higher level qualification in a mechanical or electrical discipline
  • Hands-on experience in a mechanical or electrical role such as a technician, engineer, inspector or similar role
  • Understand the requirement to adhere to applicable documentation within a highly prescriptive environment
  • Promote a positive culture towards health and safety
  • Possess a proactive approach to providing solutions to emergent challenges
  • Able to take ownership of tasks as delegated
  • Be a confident team player and able to communicate at all levels
  • Able to demonstrate exceptional attention to detail
  • Possess a proactive approach and questioning attitude.
