Non-contact inspections using camera systems and drones have rapidly established themselves as useful tools for surveying industrial assets. The next frontier for drone-based inspections is the delivery of contact inspection technology to inaccessible and difficult to reach locations. Over the last 5 years the authors have researched and developed EMAT based inspection technology that can be easily integrated into robotic systems including drones. The bulk of this technology is now commercially available via Sonobotics Ltd. This talk will give an overview of the different inspections that can be performed with the system that has been researched and developed, starting with standard testing modes but also exploring the potential for non-standard applications.
