Edge computing and machine condition monitoring
Abstract
Vibration-based machine condition monitoring uses fast sampling rates for digitization of signals from accelerometers and similar sensors. The resulting high amount of data exceeds the capacity of standard wireless communication channels. Performing data processing at the edge of the network, near the source of the data (so-called edge computing), can reduce the communications bandwidth needed between sensors and the central unit. In the paper, we describe the prototype of vibration analysis module with machine-to-machine communication capability using LoRaWAN.
