Biography
Gongtian Shen
Gongtian Shen graduated from Tsinghua University with a Doctorate degree, majoring in materials processing engineering. He served as deputy director of the Chinese Special Equipment Inspection and Research Institute (CSEI), is the President of the Chinese Society for Nondestructive Testing, the Chairman of ISO/TC135/SC9 (Acoustic Emission Testing) and the Honorary President of the International Society on Acoustic Emission.

Gongtian has been engaged in inspection, non-destructive testing and condition monitoring technology research and application for pressure equipment, cranes, amusement rides and passenger ropeways. He has presided over more than 20 national research projects including methods such as acoustic emission testing, infrared thermal imaging testing, eddy current testing, magnetic leakage testing, ultrasonic testing, electromagnetic guided wave testing and magnetic memory testing and he has made many research achievements and developments in a variety of advanced NDT and CM equipment.

Gongtian has drafted more than 30 national standards of amusement rides and non-destructive testing and more than 100 articles have been published. He has won two Second Class National Science and Technology Progress Awards and five First Class Provincial Science and Technology Progress Awards.

Professor Robert Bond Randall
Bob Randall is a visiting Emeritus Professor at the University of New South Wales, Sydney, Australia, which he joined in 1988, after 17 years with Brüel & Kjær, Denmark, where he was responsible for developing their condition monitoring systems. That followed 10 years’ experience in the rubber and chemical industries in Australia, Canada, and Sweden. He has degrees in Mechanical Engineering and Arts (Mathematics, Swedish) from the Universities of Adelaide and Melbourne. He was promoted to Associate Professor in 1996, to Professor in 2001, and was made an Emeritus Professor on his retirement in 2008. His first book, “Frequency Analysis” was published by Brüel & Kjær (last edition 1987), and second book “Vibration-based condition Monitoring” was published by Wiley in 2011. He has also published numerous book chapters and more than 300 papers in the fields of vibration analysis and machine diagnostics, and has supervised seventeen PhD projects in those areas. He is on the editorial board of three journals including Mechanical Systems and Signal Processing.

Professor Fulei Chu
Professor Fulei Chu received his PhD from Southampton University in UK. He is now a professor of mechanical engineering at Tsinghua University in Beijing. He is the Vice President of the Chinese Society for Vibration Engineering (CSVE). He serves as members of the editorial board for many journals, including Journal of Mechanical Engineering Science, Journal of Vibration Engineering, Frontiers of Mechanical Engineering, Journal of Vibration and Shock, China Plant Engineering and others. His research interests include rotating machinery dynamics, machine condition monitoring and fault detection, nonlinear vibration and vibration control. He has published more than 300 papers in peer review journals, including more than 30 papers in the Journal of Sound and Vibration and 25 papers in the journal of Mechanical Systems and Signal Processing. He has also authored 3 books and edited 2 conference proceedings. He has received many awards in China, including the Outstanding Young Researcher Award from Natural Science Foundation of China.
