An experimental study on the durability of spur gears has been carried out. Tests have been performed through a power recirculating test-rig at a fixed speed and torque load. For condition monitoring purposes, vibrations have been measured through a triaxial accelerometer mounted on the shaft frame. The acquired data have been post-processed and the preliminary results are shown. The aim of the present work is to analyse the changes in the vibration signals in order to depict a clear view on the onset and progression of wear and damage in gear transmissions.
