Detection of HTHA in petrochemical reactor vessels and pipework systems
Abstract
This presentation addresses the issues confronting reliable detection of High Temperature Hydrogen Attack (HTHA) in reactor pressure vessels and pipework systems found in the Petrochemical industry. The presentation introduces effective screening techniques including complementary modes of inspection necessary to confirm initial findings. Examples of technique validation in the form of metallography will be shown. Comparative data will be discussed explaining differences between HTHA signature and material inclusions. This presentation summarises more than three years R&D including lab experiments and site inspection results. All work was validated by destructive testing and metallography. The presentation will address operator training and certification.
