Automotive Composites Workshop 2017
23 March 2017, The Manufacturing Technology Centre, Coventry, UK
Designers, manufacturers, materials experts and regulators from the automotive industry and NDT communities were invited to participate in this Workshop on NDT requirements for automotive composites, that took place on 23 March 2017 at The Manufacturing Technology Centre, Coventry, UK.
Due to considerable environmental regulatory pressure on the automotive industry to reduce CO2 emissions, there is a new urgency in the drive to reduce the weight of cars. Composite materials can play a key role but only if manufacturing cycle times can be optimised and yield can be brought to nearly 100% - the 'right first time, every time' approach.
Manufacturers are sure that NDT will play a crucial role and they want to engage with the NDT supply chain to help deliver their solutions.
This workshop brings together designers, manufacturers, materials experts and regulators from the automotive industry to brief the NDT community on the ways in which NDT could help to increase the use of composite materials in high-volume car manufacture. This will define what success will look like and the resulting requirements will be documented in a report on the workshop, published as a referenceable BINDT publication.
