Frederic Cegla

| Dr Frederic Cegla is a reader with over 20 years of research experience in the non-destructive evaluation (NDE) group of the Department of Mechanical Engineering at Imperial College London, UK. His research is focused on improving technology for NDE, structural health monitoring (SHM) and process monitoring of assets, spanning the whole spectrum from fundamental theoretical considerations of sensor physics, wave propagation and data acquisition all the way to commercial application of technology in industry. He has been the recipient of a prestigious five-year Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC) research fellowship and has been a key contributor to research collaborations such as the UK Research Centre in Non-destructive Evaluation (RCNDE) and the Offshore Robotics for the Certification of Assets (ORCA) Hub for robotics and artificial intelligence (AI) in extreme environments. He has also recently completed a four-year term as the chair of the UK’s Institute of Physics (IOP) Physical Acoustics Group and is the chair of the SHM Sub-Committee of the British Institute of Non-Destructive Testing (BINDT) and a member of the Scientific Committee of the European Workshop on Structural Health Monitoring (EWSHM) conference series. He is a keen advocate of technology translation and has co-founded four Imperial College London spin-out companies (Permasense Ltd, Sonobotics Ltd, Embed Biotech Ltd and CodeAcq Ltd).
