Detection of kissing disbonds in adhesively bonded composite structures*

This Spotlight Talk will cover a method of introducing kissing disbonds into a sample and then using laser shock testing as a means to turn the kissing disbonds into actual disbonds. Conventional ultrasonic testing was completed before and after laser shock testing to confirm that these defects were present. Fracture toughness testing was then completed to give an understanding of the residual kissing disbond strength
