Reception at MOSI
Tuesday 10 July 2018 from 18.30-21.00
An evening visit to The Museum of Science and Industry (MOSI) where a buffet and drinks will be served. This is a large museum devoted to the development of science, technology and industry with a particular emphasis on Manchester’s achievements in these fields. There are extensive displays on the theme of transport (cars, aircraft, railway locomotives and rolling stock), power (water, electricity, steam and gas engines), Manchester’s sewerage and sanitation, textiles, communications and computing. The museum is an Anchor Point of the European Route of Industrial Heritage and is situated on the site of the world’s first railway station, Manchester Liverpool Road, which opened as part of the Liverpool and Manchester Railway in September 1830. The railway station frontage and 1830 warehouse are both Grade I listed.
The tour will commence at 18.30 in the engine room with demonstrations and a drink. At 19.15, we will begin to descend to Revolutions (across from the engine room) where food and drinks will be served at 19.30. Each person will be allocated with two complimentary drinks vouchers. For those engineers for whom the exhibits are of particular interest, the museum will remain open until 22.00 or you may wish to depart to explore the city nightlife and dine at a restaurant of your choice. The museum is just a short walk (400 m) from the Hilton Deansgate. If you wish to attend, we would ask that you gather in the hotel foyer at 18.00 ready to depart at 18.15; alternatively, you can make your own way over to the venue on foot.
National Football Museum
Wednesday 11 July 2018 from 19.00-22.00
On Wednesday evening, by invitation only, a three-course dinner with wine and a tour will be held at the National Football Museum, which is based in the Urbis building in Manchester city centre. This is an informal evening to thank all of the organisers and committees for helping with the EWSHM event. The Museum preserves, conserves and displays important collections of football memorabilia. The museum will open from 19.00 where guests will be free to look around the Level 1 Gallery only. Dinner will then be served at 19.45-22.00. Guests will be expected to make the 10 minute journey to the museum by their own means. However, for those less-abled persons, we will provide one 52-seater coach, which will depart from Trafford Street at the side of the Hilton Deansgate at 18.30 and return at 22.00. If you wish to travel by coach, we would ask that you gather in the hotel foyer at 18.15 ready to depart at 18.30. For non-invited guests, this is a free evening for delegates to do as they please. During the daytime, entry is free and is likely to be of interest to many of our delegates.
Old Trafford and Gala Dinner
Thursday 12 July 2018 from 18.15-23.00
The Gala Dinner will be held at the impressive Manchester United Football Stadium, Old Trafford, on the Thursday night of the conference. This will commence at 18.15, with a tour of the museum and a view of the stadium. Pre-dinner drinks will be served at 19.00 in the Manchester United museum, where you will see a vast amount of United memorabilia and trophies. A formal dinner will be served at 19.30 and the occasion will also provide a suitable stage for delivering the EWSHM awards, presentations and speeches, as well as plenty of excellent food and wine. The stadium is a few miles from the conference hotel, so coaches will be provided to and from the venue. These will depart from Trafford Street at the side of the Hilton Deansgate at 17.30 and return at 23.00* onwards. If you wish to travel by coach, we would ask that you gather in the hotel foyer at 17.15 ready to depart at 17.30.
*A shuttle system for the return journey from Old Trafford will run from 23.00-23.59.
The cost for this event is £70 +VAT.
