Going behind the scenes at BINDT…

In this new quarterly column, we are going behind the scenes at BINDT to explore the impactful work carried out by the different groups.

BINDT has eight committees that report to BINDT’s Council (Trustees) and which are responsible for BINDT’s operations and the execution of the strategic plan. There are a number of ‘groups’ that fall under the respective committees, including working groups, special interest groups and user groups, and it is these groups that will be the focus of the new column. Each quarter, we will interview the Chair of the selected group and pose questions to them about their operations and purpose. We invite all NDT News readers to submit their questions in advance.

The first group to be featured will be the Service Inspection Group (SIG), in the June 2023 issue. The SIG is one of five BINDT special interest groups and it falls under the Trade and Industry Committee. It was founded 20 years ago by a small group of BINDT Corporate members who wanted to demonstrate a commitment to providing a professional inspection service, based on an ethical approach to a very competitive environment. It now boasts 29 members.

The next group to be featured will be the Terahertz User Group, in September 2023. This group is one of six BINDT user groups and its aims are to promote and advance inspection techniques utilising terahertz technologies and to recommend standards and best practice. Terahertz (THz) technologies refer to all types of instrumentation utilising the electromagnetic signal at frequencies between 100 GHz and 10 THz (ie between infrared and microwave).

If you have questions for either group, please send them to the editor at ndtnews@bindt.org or email Maria Felice directly at mvfelice@gmail.com

The value of this new column depends on your questions, so please do send them in. It is your choice whether we keep them anonymous or mention your name.

Looking for the People in NDE column? This column will continue on an occasional basis, so if you have any interviewees to recommend, or would like to be featured yourself, please contact the editor at ndtnews@bindt.org or email Maria Felice at mvfelice@gmail.com
